Topps Tiles (TPT; 74p) was established in 1984 and floated on the Full List in 1997, at a time when it operated 54 stores and was turning over £54m and making a pretax profit of £2.5m. From that base, it began expanding its store count and hit just under 400 stores at the peak but has been actively managing them and now has 362. Most of these are still in the original Topps Tiles format, which targets the broad middle segment but in addition, Topps has also developed a value-focused product brand.On SCSW I  haven’t looked at the shares since the last downturn in 2009.
