Lakehouse, a property services business, makes all of its profits in the UK with most of it from social housing and public sector organisations, which in normal conditions will not cut spend during an economic downturn and should in theory make the shares tailormade for a “risk off” market as investors rotate into recession proof businesses.This time, however, the social housing sector has come under the cosh mainly because the government has reversed a 19 year old formula that allowed social rents to rise by the consumer prices index (CPI) plus 1 per cent each year.
