We have noted previously that the major stock market indices are increasingly dominated by traders whose investment timeframe is measured in seconds and institutions (including hedge funds) whose idea of “long term†is a few months.So the headline in the FT in the wake of the Egypt crisis (“Investors pull $7bn from emerging fundsâ€) was a reminder that volatility (price falls) over shorter periods present superb buying opportunities for those with a longer time frame for investing.Look for the long-term trends, those that are unlikely to be knocked off course and then find ways to exploit them.
