Since our last update, Caretech has announced two further acquisitions for a combined £3.5m augmenting its fostering and mental health businesses. However the shares fell after it came to light that Caretech’s accounting treatment for the cost of its core team of 12 who identify such acquisition targets, perform due diligence and assist in initial integration whilst not technically incorrect were flattering eps forecasts. Under IFRS 3 Caretech had capitalised this cost in the past rather than writing it off as incurred - £1.2m in FY09 and £1.5m in FY10 – which has overstated profits.
