The amazing share performance of cake maker, Interlink Foods (670p), might make it look remarkably easy to grow a food manufacturing business through acquisition. Our guess is that it isn’t and so when Glisten, 289p, a confectionery business intending to grow along the same lines, floated in June ‘02, we were happy to recommend them in early dealings but recommended taking  profits soon after . Big mistake. Glisten, which shares the same Interlink chairman, Jeremy Harmer, and is led by chief executive Paul Simmonds, previously chief executive of Hibernia, has already made a number of other acquisitions.
