Domino's Pizza - Take away sales growing at expense of upmarket restaurants

At odds with much of the UK foodservice operators reporting trade stubbornly flat or down, Domino's Pizza has reported like-for-like sales increases of 6.3% for the five week period to 29 December. Together with the announcement, Domino cited some independent research as to why it expected to see a significant upside for home delivered food, including: an increasingly cash-rich time-poor population; changing demographics with an increasing number of single households; and the use of interactive ordering online. The current economic downswing also works in its favour, with consumers preferring cheaper delivered meals rather than restaurant meals consumed away from the home.   Preliminary results for the year will be announced ...
