If you look on Tracsis’ (TRCS; 890p) website, you will find that the company came into existence because of research undertaken at Leeds University to address challenges in train scheduling and managing drivers - especially given the scarcity of labour - while navigating various constraints, such as mandatory rest breaks for drivers. If you are juggling, say, 300 drivers over 2500 daily services and 400 stations, it is easy to see how this can become a headache, although traditionally such scheduling was carried out manually on paper.
