Majestic Wine - Sterling strengthening helps

Majestic has announced its H1 results with sales up 2.8% to £134m. Pretax profit, however, came in £1m lower as had been flagged previously. This was after the costs of relocating to a larger depot in Watford (cost £259k); a big piece of data analytics in order to develop an ecommerce strategy (cost £526k); and difficult trading at Lay & Wheeler around the weak Bordeaux 2013 vintage (profit impact £448k). The investments are of course a once-off hit and by definition won’t repeat this year whilst Majestic will also see the first rewards emerging.
