First half results from Majestic showed a pretax profit and eps both up around 5% to £9.5m and 11p. Total sales were up 3% to £130m.During H1, three new stores were opened bringing the UK portfolio to 195. A further five have opened since but there will probably be 16 for the year, similar to each of the last two years. The opening program is always a fine balancing act as stores are loss making for the first year but the store and delivery infrastructure is being sweated by growing the commercial side, fine wines and e-commerce side alongside this.Within these results, the core UK retail business saw sales up 3% to £112m (with LFLs declining by 0.4%) as last year’s new store openings made a contribu ...
