On one day during the month we spoke to directors of both Kewill (KWL; 90p) and Norkom, two software companies that have featured before in Sharewatch. You might think software comes in just a single flavour but as the performance of these companies demonstrates, this isn’t the case: Kewill has moved increasingly to supplying its software as a service (SAAS) whereby the customer will access it over the internet for a repeating annual fee. Norkom on the other hand sells the software on a perpetual licence basis (typically Eu0.6m-0.8m) but charges a small recurring maintenance income. The key point is that the recurring element of sales at Kewill has now grown to 62% of total income whereas that for Norkom, although up in the latest H1, ...
