Another blistering result from EDI. Revenues for the year to 30 September went up 32% to Â£28.3m and the effect of operational gearing translated into pretax profit soaring by 164% from Â£3.3m to Â£8.7m. With tax losses now utilised, eps was 16.2p on a 25% tax charge. Net cash at the period end was Â£9.5m, up from Â£5.8m at the H1 stage.EDIâ€™s UK business is primarily the exam board, which is accredited by the government to develop courses and award qualifications and is the most visible demonstration of operational gearing at work - an exam once written can be sold many times over at little incremental cost - and this side saw 55% sales growth to Â£16.4m.
