Over the last month the recovery to 6700 on the FTSE-100 index hasbeen reversed, with 6000 being tested on the downside. Positivecomments on the likelihood of more rate cuts by the vice-chairman ofthe Federal Reserve have triggered a more recent bounce. Where themarket might lurch or tarry in coming weeks is anybody’s guess butthere are some interesting signs for those with an attention spangreater than a gnat.We would normally like to be able to identify the moment of maximumfear before calling a bottom. It’s not easy to describe except with thebenefit of hindsight and just possibly we had it in August as theFTSE-100 fell towards 5800.
