The shares fell out of bed after Augean announced that volumes of hazardous waste were continuing to run below projections. Although the new legislation introduced on 16 July (larger list of hazardous wastes and more stringent procedures) had been expected to release further volumes to hazardous landfill sites, this has not proved the case. Around 60% of Augean’s market is represented by chemical waste where inputs have fallen following the confusion caused by the legislation which has led some customers to stockpile or illegally dump waste.
