Shoe Zone has been hit by higher container freight rates in the past six months, due to a reduced supply of shipping vessels and the rerouting of trade to avoid conflict in the Suez Canal. Alongside an increase in shipping costs, it also saw weaker than expected sales from April to June, due to the unseasonal weather conditions. Consequently, it expects to report pretax profit for the year ending 2 October of “not less than £10m,” versus previous expectations of £13.8m. Interesting to see the Smith brothers, who run the company, move their holdings out of companies and into personal names, perhaps sensing the temporary low price for the shares for tax planning.
