 As with anything to do with consumer sentiment post the Referendum, analysts have been waxing hot and cold over the short term outlook for the restaurant sector. In the UK, Restaurant Group (RTN; 354p), owner of chains such as Frankie & Benny’s and Garfunkels, is one of the biggest constituents. Up until last year it was a darling of the sector with earnings ballooning from 6.3p in 2001 to 34.2p in 2015. The company had a little over 500 restaurants at the end of last year, and has always said it expected to reach 900 outlets within 8-10 years.
