The shares have been suspended after the Crewe-based group, which operates an estate of off licences through a network of franchisees, said it was in talks to acquire the UK’s biggest wholesaler of drinks to pubs, Matthew Clark, from Punch Taverns and an Australian private equity business. Assuming it completes, it would result in a group with £1.2bn sales and a combined profit of over £30m (before some sizeable back office and distribution synergies), and make the FY15 results announced this month of academic interest only.During the year, Conviviality acquired 31 Rhythm and Booze stores and 47 GT News stores, of which 42 were subsequently franchised.
