Shaft Sinkers

Since our last update in May, Shaft Sinkers has announced a mine accident which resulted in a fatality at its Impala shaft. Operations which were subsequently suspended at all three of Impala's shafts have since resumed. Separately, it also announced a shaft sinking contract for Hindustan Zinc, part of Vedanta, at its Rampura Agucha mine in Rajasthan. The size of the contract which runs through to 2017 was undisclosed although Shaft Sinkers reported that its order book stands at Â£401m, with tenders out for Â£1bn of work. Contracts outside South Africa usually attract better margins. So itâ€™s pleasing to hear from brokers that a second major contract is likely before the year end.
