JD has announced that it has taken a 50.1% interest in Sprinter, a 47-strong chain, for Eu20m. In 2010 Sprinter made a Eu4m operating profit on sales of Eu87m albeit this was bolstered by the World Cup. The joint venture gives JD access to an established brand and management team and it intends to open at least five stores annually under the Sprinter brand. Alongside that, the joint venture will also develop the JD format as a more fashion orientated retail brand in Spain and these stores will be part of a joint venture within the Sprinter joint venture in which JD will have a 65% holding.In a separate development, JD has also bought the Cecil Gee brand and eight stores from Moss Bros for Â£1.7m.
