POG has issued a strong H1 trading update, with total gold production up 54% on the previous year to 222,600oz and it is clearly going to have a crack at beating its full year output guidance of 500,000oz. The realised gold price was up 2% to $917/oz while costs are stated to be in line with expectations. POG produced 91,700 at its Pokrovsky mine, a similar level to last year but more noteworthy was that the Pioneer mine produced 118,100oz almost tripling H1 08's level and a second mill will kick in during H2. Meanwhile, Malomir is on track for launch in H2 10 and the seemingly forgotten Kuranakh's iron ore processing plant will also be commissioned at the end of 2009 at a time when the iron ore price is also recovering.
