Ottakar’s pre-close statement (ahead of interim results on 25 September) indicates trading has been better than expectations. Sales are up 34% in the 23 weeks to 12 July, 8% on a like-for-like basis.  Excluding the exceptional success of the Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix novel like-for-like was up 5.2%.  The Hammicks stores acquired in April have bedded in well with twelve now rebadged. Sales of these acquired stores grew 6.4% in the first eleven weeks of ownership. The successful integration will result in Ottakar’s releasing some of the £1m restructuring provision it was expecting in April.
