Filtronic - Huge opportunity for poweramps likely to open up in 2004

Filtronic (160p): Shortly after results for the year to 31 May were announced, we had a very enjoyable lunch with founder and chairman, Professor David Rhodes, and finance director, John Samuel. Our feeling as we came away was that if you hold these shares for long enough  you are almost certain to make money - a lot of it.In line with the guidance given in May, sales for the  year declined 14% to £241.3m as Filtronic experienced a reduction on its two core business areas of wireless infrastructure and cellular handsets. Operating profit was £11m and with the absence of the huge impairment charges and a reduction in interest payments, pretax profit was £3.8m versus the £25.5m loss reported the year before.
