Sales for the full year to end December were up 20% to £26.1m, reflecting a full year contribution from Stanbio. Organic growth might have looked lacklustre but this was because the comparable results the year before had been boosted by a once-off contract to supply 3,500 Haemocontrol instruments in Mexico. Even though sales were light on forecasts, EKF has still met profit expectations mainly due to higher than expected sales of Beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) reagents. BHB is an acidic chemical produced in the body in response to a lowering of its ability to digest glucose for energy - commonly linked to diabetes - and the reagent generated almost £3.7m sales translating into a £1.7m bottom line benefit ...
