We remember reading an article in the FT late last year which highlighted there had been 19 bull markets in the last 100 years. It was one of those pieces that said that it didn’t know where the market was going but it did know where it had been. Nevertheless it was interesting as it highlighted that of the 19 rallies, all but one had run for at least 14 months.    The article noted that bull markets that began with muted rallies were often followed by sharp advances in the following year. The corollary was that powerful initial moves were followed by weak markets.
