Some subscribers will recall the unsalubrious actions of one British sounding organisation, the Irish International University, which earlier this year was uncovered by the BBC as having falsely set itself up to offer degree courses to overseas students, despite having no power to award degrees. The problem for students, who were attracted by the UK’s high reputation for education, was of course not knowing the institution wasn’t genuine and that the certificate they had been working towards for three years was not recognised anywhere.
