May Gurney has bought Staffordshire-based mechanical and electrical engineering specialists AC Chesters & Son for £5.15m. In the year to 31 March, Chesters generated a pretax profit of £0.5m on sales of £4.1m. Adjusting for £1.5m cash in the business, May Gurney is therefore paying around 10x post tax profit. Chester is a mechanical and electrical services engineer focussed on the water and sewage sector and will complement May Gurney's existing network maintenance and enhancement services in the sector.
