Arena Leisure - Buy ahead of St Leger race in September

Shares in Arena Leisure (ARE; 64p), which owns Royal Windsor, Lingfield, Doncaster and Southwell racecourses, stand at a 52-week high. Old timers will recall the shares were a successful main recommendation for us in July ‘99 at just 22p and we advised taking profit just eight months later at 210p. Such happy memories! The first time round the shares had got caught up in the wave of enthusiasm surrounding the internet and Arena had just announced plans to launch Attheraces, its online/cable venture. The picture now is totally different. Not only has the management changed with Mark Elliot, ex-Wembley plc, at the helm but the share price rise this time has a more solid feel.
